While the 23 centers within the Alliance for Watershed Education are in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, the Delaware River watershed stretches all the way into upstate New York. The Delaware is the longest undammed river east of the Mississippi, and its watershed provides clean drinking water for more than 15 million people, nearly 5% of the United States' population. The watershed is also important to a multitude of species and ecological habitats, and provides recreation for cyclists, hikers, paddlers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
